PGCYD Mission Statement

The Prince George's County Young Democrats is an organization devoted to increasing political and social activism throughout the county. PGCYD promotes the principles of the Democratic Party, while working on issues that are important to the residents of Prince Georges County.  PGCYD members receive training and experience to be future leaders. They work on campaigns, help Democratic candidates get elected, and advocate on issues of interest to young voters.

PGCYD Programs

PGCYD programs center around political engagement and education. Programs include issue forums and election debates, political training and education for members, social activism, and community service. Events are held January-December and open to the public. Monthly "General Body Meetings" are held the 3rd Thursday of each month, with a variety of themes -- from "Women's History" in March to "Military Tribute" in May. PGCYD also attends local and national conferences each year. Members have served in a variety of campaign positions during election year, and as delegates to the national convention. Many have gone on to hold elected office on the local, state, and national level.

What do Democratic leaders say about us?

U.S. Congressman Steny H. Hoyer, House Majority Leader, 2008 - "I commend the Prince George's County Young Democrats for their numerous contributions to the Democratic Party and for their commitment to honoring our proud past, while leading the Party into the future."

U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski, 2008 - "[PGCYD's] always successful Kennedy-King Dinner is testimony to the heritage and vitality of the Democratic Party in Prince Georges County."

Comptroller of Maryland Peter Franchot, 2008 - "I was very inspired and excited by the passion, energy and commitment of the Prince George's County Young Democrats. I am confident the young democrats of Prince George’s will energize and engage their peers here in Maryland and help create record turnouts [for the 2008 election] that will result in a resounding vote for change."

Aisha N. Braveboy, State Delegate, District 25, 2009 -  I am proud to announce that the Prince George's County Young Democrats won the 2009 Local Chapter of the Year award at the Young Democrats of America Conference in Chicago.
